Roof is the most vital part of a home. It is like a protective blanket for us and the interiors of our home. It protects us from the harsh weather conditions and all the external elements. Since our roofs are constantly exposed to the changing climatic conditions, defects like roof leaks and stained surfaces are very common which can lead to roof replacement.

It is not always that you have experience with roofing. There are many things which need to be pondered upon while replacing your roof like the type of preparation you need, kind of materials to be used, finding right and experienced contractor. Here are a few useful tips regarding roofing and it's replacement.

Most important and before starting with any work, it is important to check the exact condition of the roof. By doing a general survey you will come to know how important is its replacement or can it be postponed for some more time with minor repairs made.

A variety of roofing materials are available these days. For example you can go for the most popular one asphalt shingles. Other materials like tiles, wood, metal are also available. But, be sure that the roof you choose matches your home structure.

It is always recommended to remove the old roof layer before installing a new one. If in case you are installing a new one over the old layer, check your roof condition first and make sure that it is in a condition to bear more weight of the new layer.

You need to be very careful while the installation process. Every roofing system has different installation requirements which must be fulfilled to avoid any kind of damages. Like for asphalt or tile roofing, you must have a strong base of plywood or any other similar material. In case of wooden roofs, make proper arrangements for roof ventilation so you must have an open sheathing.

During the installation of the new roof, when your roofing contractor starts removing the old roof, make sure to cover doors and windows so that they are not destroyed. Remove the debris falling over your home. One very important thing to remember is to arrange for proper drainage system on the roof while it is being replaced.

Also, while looking for the contractor, have the bids from at least three contractors. You can also get some references from your friends and neighbors. So, it is always recommended to do some good amount of research before hiring any one as roof is the largest investment for any home homeowner and must be taken care of. - 29955
