Home Lighting Arrangements

By Scott Rodgers

Lighting plays a very important role in the overall look and feel of an area. Even if all the other things in a room are just perfect but there is no good lighting, all your efforts would be wasted as no one would be able to notice anything. Therefore, a good home lighting plan is very necessary which should be functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

For a bedroom, you must have lights that help you do your work comfortably and should also give a good look as it is the place where you relax and sleep. You can go for florescent lights as they produce white light and are low on power thus saving electricity. CFL is a good option and you can get a variety of designs in it.

Keep a night lamp on the table beside you for night time reading. Have a focus light just above your dressing mirror, to light up your face well while dressing.

For lighting up a living room, the first thing to consider is the size of the room. If it is large sized room with a lot of open space, then you should go for soft lights and highlight areas you want to draw special attention to.

In case your living room area is not that huge, then you should always go for bright lights. A room which is brightly lit appears to be larger. Up lights i.e. lights facing the ceiling are good to use in these rooms as they make the room look higher and more spacious.

If you like to decorate your home with artworks or paintings etc, then you should place them in areas where they can be noticed. To draw attention to such special pieces, you can use lights to accentuate them. Lights make them look really amazing. Also, keep the lights around them dim so that they are noticed separately.

For kid's room, you can get bright colored lamps with fancy shades. Ensure that the switch is near the bed so that children can use it comfortably.

Your requirements for a hobby room would be more simple, but functional, and would fit the exact need for the specific hobby " be it painting, or carpentry. The lighting should facilitate the functional requirements, and must complement your furniture. - 29955
