The Coral Princess Cruise Ship Fits Through the Panama Canal With Two Feet to Spare on Each Side

By Matthew Shaulis

The Coral Princess cruise ship was designed specifically to fit through the Panama Canal, but it's advantages do not stop there. The narrow design of the Coral Princess cruise ship makes it a joy for cruising the Inside Passage of Alaska.

The Coral Princess cruise ship is narrower, but just as long as the Grand Class cruise ships. This change in design permits her to fit through the Panama Canal. Although the Coral Princess cruise ship is narrower than most of the Princess Cruiseline, she is just as long, thus providing ample room for other amenities aboard this ship. Almost 85 percent of the rooms on the Coral Princess cruise ship are outside rooms and over 80 percent of these provide balconies. The Coral Princess cruise ship has less inside cabins, thus utilizing more of the space inside the ship for the Princess amenities we all love. This is the perfect combination when it comes to taking an Alaskan cruise or a Panama Canal cruise because you will certainly not want to miss a moment of scenery just because you are in your room.

The Coral Princess cruise ship is geared more towards adults and you will not find near so many hangouts for the kids as on other Princess cruiseships. There is a teen center and youth center on the Coral Princess, but it is much smaller than the larger ships. So you may think about another Princess cruise ship if it is a family vacation you are planning and you want your kids to be around hundreds of other children. Most children over 10 will enjoy the scenery and this will not be a problem, but there will be less children on this ship than the larger Princess cruise ships. The Coral Princess cruise ship carries 1970 passengers in mostly balcony suites, making this a more intimate ship and perfect for weddings at sea, the Captain of the ship can even perform the services if this is in your wedding plans.

Food on the Coral Princess cruise ship is nothing short of the excellence that Princess cruiseline is known for. Princess's "Personal Choices" flexible dining program, whereby passengers can opt either for traditional two-seating dining, or dine when and with whom they please, is nowhere better implemented than on this ship. In the Bayou Cafe, you can enjoy zingy New Orleans-style cuisine to a jazz trio's accompaniment for $10 per person, including a cocktail. Sabatini's offers alternative diners a gigantic multi-course Italian feast for $15. The always-open Horizon Court dishes up standard cafeteria fare during breakfast and lunch; but at night gets swanky, offering its patrons items from the ship's main restaurant.

The Coral Princess cruise ship spends half the year taking passengers on breathtaking Alaskan cruises through the inside passage. The winter months are dedicated to Panama Canal cruises, on these cruises not only will you visit the Panama Canal, but also several exciting ports of call in the western Caribbean. Breathtaking Alaskan cruises can be a bit chilly, even though they are in the heat of the summer, so this is an excellent choice for cooling down in the summer. Winter cruises to the Panama Canal will awe you as you enter the Locks. - 29955
