Organic Dog Food Is The Best Dog Food

By Kristaria Dawson

Many people base their purchasing decisions of pet food based on the price. If you really love your family pet, you wouldn't buy something harmful to its health, would you? Cheap conventional food fits better within our budget, but it contains a lot of stuff that's hard to digest for your pet. These ingredients will stick in your dog's system and cause it to gain weight. Your pets ingest trace amounts of fungicides, herbicides, and pesticides from the manufacturing process. You probably would never want your pet to ingest the chemicals under your sink, so then why would you want to feed your dog food that has these chemicals?

While cheap dog food will contain some vitamins and minerals necessary for the health of your pet, these are typically in very minute amounts that aren't enough on their own to provide proper nutrition for your dog. Conventional food has a lot of added in synthetic vitamins and minerals because the manufacturing process eliminates many of the natural ones inside the ingredients. Your dog will have trouble digesting the synthetic chemicals which can cause it to gain weight. The organic dog food's natural minerals, antioxidants and vitamins are much easier for your dog to metabolize and much better for him.

When looking to buy organic dog food, you need to be careful that you are getting what you are paying for. To be completely certain that you are getting truly organic dog food, it must say that it is approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). You cannot trust food that claims to be certified by any other organization besides the USDA because this is the only governing body approved to make this determination.

Even though organic is the way to go, not all organic foods were created equal. As such, you need to be aware of what is inside of the food before you purchase it. You can be sure that the organic food will not have any uncertain ingredients or byproducts, but they can include a high percentage of ingredients that aren't necessary for the general health of your pet. A good example would be a food that contains a primary ingredient (or one of the first three listed on the can) or corn, rice or variety of flour. Your dog will have a hard time digesting these things as they didn't evolve with them in their diet.

It is best to check that one of the primary ingredients in your dog's food is a source of animal protein. The origin of things like 'chicken meal' and 'animal protein' is almost impossible to trace, so you cannot be certain that they are the highest grade available. Because the USDA approval means that the dog food is guaranteed to have the best known ingredients, you can be sure that only traceable, quality ingredients are used in the food. You dog can live a long, healthy life due to the natural proteins, vegetables and fruits inside the organic food. - 29955
