Assuring Your House With A Home Cctv System

By Matthew Kerridge

For years CCTV cameras have been abundant in stores, malls and oil stations but not so common in our homes. With recent price drops an increased popularity has grown and it is now becoming much more commonplace for regular home owners to be displaying home CCTV setups on the exterior walls of their homes.

Many companies now make CCTV systems specifically for the home. They can range from a single camera mounted outside your front door, to a series of CCTV cameras all linked to each other around the home, which can also be viewed on a screen from anywhere around the world.

In the past year, sales of CCTV systems have risen by a massive 70% in some of the United States largest urban areas. Around 82% of current CCTV users only use the equipment for monitoring the outside of their homes, and the rest also use in inside. This just shows how quickly the requirement to have additional security in your home has become.

The only burden that comes with having security cameras on the walls of your home is that unbeknown to most, you could be in breach of many privacy laws. These laws state that you must not have your camera or cameras pointed towards any neighboring properties or gardens and never towards any public open spaces.

Using a CCTV system is not the only thing you can use to help protect your home against crime. Additional door locks and window bolts can be used, and if you couple those with exterior automatic lighting you will end up with a very good security setup.

Another fantastic option available is the invention of the night vision systems. They will usually only provide a black and white picture and are fitted with an infrared sensor inside the camera lens. This sensor helps the camera to capture good quality images in low light. Some night vision home CCTV cameras are even available that can record in full color during the daytime and switch to black and white in the evening and night times.

There are also ways available to reduce running costs such as film tapes and electricity bills. By using what is called a motion sensitive camera you can reduce costs as they only turn on when they detect a being moving past it. Only at this point will it turn on and begin recording the subject. The only disadvantage to this is that you may miss some vital criminal activity happening on the perimeter. - 29955
