Important Advice About Carpet Cleaning

By Adam Webster

We all have carpets in our offices and homes. Carpets are not only an attractive furnishing, but they also provide warmth in cold weather. Carpets that are well cared for can last for decades without losing quality or color. It is important to know how to clean your carpets properly, so here are some carpet cleaning tips.

When choosing a carpet-cleaning product, you must carefully read the label in case the cleaning agent contains dangerous chemicals. Many chemicals used to make cleaning liquids can harm humans and pets. Choose a product that is eco-friendly and one that contains mild chemicals.

Carpets should be cleaned regularly. If you don't clean them often, the dirt is going to be more difficult to get out and you will need to use a carpet-cleaning liquid with strong chemicals. Look at the label on your carpets before they are laid and read the cleaning instructions.

If you want to clean your carpets you can rent a machine. Or you may prefer to call in someone who specializes in cleaning carpets. Often the cost of paying someone professional is about the same as renting a machine, but your professional carpet cleaner will do a better job.

Carpets that are not properly laid are much harder to keep clean. So before you get your brand new carpeting laid, get the job done by a professional carpet layer. The underlay is another important factor - it should be suit the texture and thickness of the carpet. As soon as you see a stain or a spot on your carpet, clean it immediately.

The biggest culprit of dirty carpets is the dirt on our shoes. This can be greatly reduced by placing big attractive mats at all external doorways to your house. Make your family and friends wipe their shoes on the mats before they walk on your carpet. Vacuum the mats daily. And when it rains make everybody take their shoes off before walking on your carpeting.

Your vacuum cleaner should have a powerful suction as well as the necessary attachments for cleaning in hard-to-get-to places. It is recommended that all carpets be vacuumed every day. If you do this, you won't need to clean them so often with a chemical cleaner. A powerful vacuum cleaner will suck up the dirt before it gets a chance to bury itself into the carpet.

Remove spots and stains with a stain remover that is recommended by a carpet manufacturer. If you do not use the correct product, the stain may spread while you are trying to remove it, and do even more damage. You'll be surprised how easily cold water removes stains, so try this first before resorting to a chemical based remover. Act quickly when you see a stain and get rid of it as soon as possible. This will reduce the severity of the stain.

If you are going to clean your carpets with a chemical based cleaner, wear gloves to protect your hands. Certain chemicals can result in a number of skin problems and allergies. Make sure that none of the liquid gets into your eyes. Beware of the chemical, tetrachlorethylene. It is toxic to humans and pets. - 29955
