Fashion Eyewear - something for everyone

By Jennifer Smith

Have you ever looked at someone's old high school year book and laughed at the glasses that the kids wore? They didn't have much of a choice and, yes, they would probably like to Photoshop their photos to eliminate the glasses. It took forever, however, for the fashion industry to understand that glasses should make us look better, not just see better. Voila! The birth of fashion eyewear!

Of course, prices can be pretty outrageous and even for those of us who need glasses, we might put off the purchase longer and longer until we can afford what we like or need. With average prices ranging from $300 - $500, it's no wonder that consumers are going without longer than they should.

If looks are important and finances are a problem, check out your local retailers for coupons and special offers. Frames are frequently on sale, and two for one specials are very common. Even some of the frames that are on sale, though, can be quite attractive and are perfectly acceptable options to the high end designer frames that for all intents and purposes aren't actually made with much more quality.

Do you have some type of vision insurance? Many health care plans will pay for your actual eye exam every two years, but you might also have insurance that will help pay for your actual glasses. Many private dental insurers actually have agreements with certain vision care providers who will offer a steep discount that you've already been paying for with your insurance! Check the back of your insurance card, or call the company. Don't spend money you don't need to.

Once eyewear became mainstream fashion, every designer and manufacturer started making their own eye glass frames. You can buy frames to match your fancy sports car, your Italian leather shoes, or even your Swiss watch.

If you happen to have perfect vision but would still like to take advantage of some of the benefits that glasses offer, you are in luck! A pair of eye glasses can add years or IQ points to someone's appearance. Business people who manage older team members can add a pair of glasses to help them look older and wiser so they will get the respect they deserve.

When deciding on buying new glasses, you might also want to think about getting some prescription sunglasses as well. Retailers frequently offer these as a special when buying your regular glasses. And if fashion is your passion, then sunglasses are the way to go to complete your new look.

Yes, glasses can be expensive, and sometimes they don't even seem to be worth it. But when it comes to fashion, does it matter? - 29955
