Are The Best Anti Aging Products Necessarily Safe?

By Peter Geraldson

If you're a woman starting to experience the signs and symptoms of skin ageing you may have spent quite some time searching for the best anti aging products on the market.

You've probably seen all those convincing television advertisements and read the glossy magazine ads and you're convinced that those anti aging creams just have to work well.

But if you've reached that stage in your search for the best anti aging products then you've missed one question that's most important to ask before deciding how good those products are. You need to ask yourself how safe they are for you to use.

That's because there's so many chemical ingredients that are found in most of the big name skin care products you see on the shelves right now. One of those ingredients is called Propylene Glycol and I want to talk about Propylene Glycol today.

In fact you might have Propylene Glycol in your cars radiator right now. That's because Propylene Glycol is the active ingredient in anti freeze. And the FDA also tells us that if you're handling Propylene Glycol you need to wear protective gloves as well as protective goggles just in case you get some of it on your skin.

And yet, according to the Cosmetic Safety Database, Propylene Glycol is found in 945 anti aging moisturizers, 1118 facial treatments and 690 general anti aging products as well as a wide range of other personal and bath products as well as cosmetics.

And you will see on the same page that the Cosmetic Safety Database tells us that Propylene Glycol is linked to developmental and reproductive toxicity, cancer, irritation to the skin, allergies and immunotoxicity to name just a few.

Maybe the glossy advertising tells you that those skin care products are the best anti aging products on the market, but if they happen to contain Propylene Glycol then I would avoid them like the plague, and the same applies to a wide range of other chemical ingredients.

There is no requirement for the FDA to test to see whether ingredients used in anti ageing products are safe for people to put on their skin. So the manufacturers use these ingredients because they can, and because they're cheap.

So if you're a woman noticing those first signs and symptoms of ageing skin what do you do? Do you avoid all anti ageing products and skin care products and just accept the fact of wrinkles? No.

Despite the fact that so many products are contaminated with chemical ingredients there are small niche skin care and anti aging companies that are dedicated to producing extremely high quality anti aging products that contain only ingredients known to be safe (as well as very effective at promoting better skin health).

One of these companies in particular makes extremely high quality products. They use natural ingredients all known to be safe and which are also known to have excellent skin care properties but these natural ingredients are very very expensive.

The obvious conclusion is that their skin care products are very expensive however this isn't in fact the case. These companies choose to avoid television and magazine advertising and so can avoid factoring the cost of advertising into the price of their products, rendering them very price competitive.

So there is good news. You really can find high quality (and safe) anti aging products that work extremely well but the chances are very high that the company that makes them is one that you've never heard of. If you do then you might be surprised at how well these products work.
