5 Tips On Measuring Curtains

By Sarah K Howarth

Accuracy in measurements is perhaps the most important factor in getting the curtains stitched. One can take the measurements of the place where the curtains are supposed to be hung on their own or get it done from a professional.

Be it a door or window, or any other place at your home or workplace, the curtains should fit exactly according to the dimensions of that place; there cannot be anything worse than ill-fitted curtains in a room. They will simply spoil the whole effect of the interior decor. Nobody would like to have such curtains in ones room, either at home or in the office. Replacing curtains might be a burden on our budget because curtains cloth and stitching, both are pretty expensive.

This important attribute requires proper concentration and focus when one is doing it therefore it is necessary to be at ease and not rush things while taking the measurements for a curtain.

Curtains are coming in all kinds of different materials these days so a person should always keep in mind the type of material the curtain will be made out of. If it is a stretchable material it will have the tendency not to give a constant measurement at all times therefore it is advised to have an expert take its measurement since they know the ways. Shrinking of material is another issue hence the material of the curtain can shrink as well after the initial wash.

Therefore it is always suggested to be on the safe side and take extra cloth before stitching which can be kept in the layer on the sides and the underneath of the curtains. A difference of a few inches should be added, while taking the size for the measurement lengthwise and width of the curtain, so that no hassles are faced later on.

The scale in which the measurement of the curtain is being done is very important to note for a person. If you or the expert has measured the curtain in some scale, the tailor should follow the same scale while stitching the curtain. Measurement of a door frame made in inches should be kept in mind in inches while purchasing or stitching the curtain. The tailor needs to cut the cloth in the same scales that you have followed while taking measurements to avoid problems.

Lastly and most importantly, the width of the pole of the window or of the curtain track should be measured, and not of the window itself. Likewise, when you are measuring the length of the curtain, keep in mind where you want the curtain to drop: to the floor, to the window sill or below the window sill. Moreover, the length should be measured from the top of the rack to the point where you want the curtain to end. - 29955
