Be Environmentally Friendly By Using A Crank Flashlight

By Giselle Macenzy

Crank flashlights liberate users from battery addiction! Flashlights are useful in an almost endless array of circumstances. Campers use flashlights to find their way through the wilds at night. Children navigate the twists and turns of scary stories accompanies by the shining light of a flashlight. A husband slipping out of bed before dawn to prepare breakfast in bed for his wife can feel his way to the kitchen with the aid of a flashlight.

Flashlights accompany us on many of life's journeys, typically burning through batteries along the way. Thanks to the high cost of batteries, a ten dollar flashlight can easily and rapidly quadruple-or more-in cost. And when no batteries are available, traditional flashlights are useless.

A crank flashlight works by turning a hand crank affixed to the flashlight body. As the crank turns and creates a magnetic field that is pushed against a negative magnetic field created by a static field coil. The conflicting currents generate electricity used to power and light up the bulb.

Being human-powered, the crank flashlight can operate as long as the bulb lasts, making it much more convenient as a bulb does not need to be replaced as often as a battery. The other functions some crank flashlights have, such as radios and lamps, have made the product very appealing.

These human-powered flashlights are earth-friendly. A reduction in the number of batteries used means fewer emissions, and there are fewer batteries that must be discarded to fill up out landfills. In a time when consumers are becoming increasingly aware of green alternatives, the crank flashlight makes more sense than ever.

It's perfect for leaving in a glove compartment, under a car seat, backpack, desk drawer, or even in storage areas like an attic or basement. Because the flashlight may or may not have a multitude of attachments, the size may vary. More portable units are much smaller with a smaller bulb and hand crank, while others can be as big as a 2 liter bottle of soda as they carry more than just the flashlight.

Depending on the usage for the crank flashlight, one could even carry it in his or her's pocket. What puts crank flashlights over the edge from normal flashlights is the dependability. While a normal flashlight may need battery changes every few months, a crank flashlight would never need one. It's perfect for that one time that you forget the batteries while its pitch black and you're stuck without a light. - 29955
